You cannot capture a WIM file from within a running Windows XP environment (the file locks prevent it). You need a WinPE (Windows Preinstallation Environment) environment.
💡 : Unlike sector-based imaging (like old versions of Ghost), a WIM file is file-based. This means you can mount it on your current PC to add or remove files without ever booting the image.
