George and Martha have built their entire lives on shared fantasies (including a fictional son) to cope with their disappointment. The play asks: Can we live without our illusions?
The play also features two younger characters, Nick and Honey, who become entangled in George and Martha's twisted relationship. As the play unfolds, the lines between reality and fantasy blur, and the characters' perceptions of themselves and each other are challenged.
