Don't keep your Castle in the middle of the map. With all maps unlocked, you can "Hedgehog" your strategy.

When you only have 3 maps unlocked, you are competing with 10,000 other players for the same level-3 wood tiles. When you have , you can see that the Tundra has 50 abandoned level-5 gold mines that nobody is using because they haven't unlocked the zone yet. You teleport there and harvest in peace.
