To protect Aurora, the fairies raise her in a hidden cottage, calling her "Briar Rose." On her 16th birthday, she meets Prince Phillip in the forest. But Maleficent tricks Aurora into touching the spindle, fulfilling the curse. The fairies put the entire kingdom to sleep, and Prince Phillip must fight Maleficent (who turns into a terrifying dragon) to wake Aurora with a kiss.
