One of the film's most compelling themes is the battle between nature and nurture. The Giant is seemingly built for destruction; under threat, his defense mechanisms activate, transforming his innocent visage into a weaponized killing machine. However, Hogarth teaches the Giant a pivotal lesson: "You are who you choose to be." This mantra challenges the deterministic view that the Giant must be a monster because he was built to be one. The film posits that consciousness overrides programming. Even as government agent Kent Mansley represents the fear and paranoia that seeks to destroy what it doesn't understand, Hogarth represents the empathy that seeks to understand it.
