For the uninitiated, Dr. Romantic follows (Han Suk-kyu), a triple-board certified genius surgeon who once had it all in Seoul’s top hospitals. After a personal tragedy and betrayal by the system, he exiles himself to Doldam, a run-down, underfunded hospital in a rural province.

The title Dr. Romantic has always been ironic. Teacher Kim isn’t romantic in the lovey-dovey sense. He is a Romantic in the 19th-century artistic sense—rejecting cold rationalism for passion, intuition, and the sanctity of human life.
