A more classic approach: a prestigious summer theater camp is putting on Cinderella: The Musical . The lead role goes to the popular, untalented step-sister (through bribes). Our heroine works behind the scenes as a costume assistant. The “ball” is opening night. When the lead loses her voice, the girl must go on stage wearing a magical (and cursed) costume that only fits her. This plot would allow for heavy musical numbers and backstage drama.
